Valley Caregiver Resource Center offers a wide variety of free classes and training for all caregivers. In addition to our pre-existing classes, we can personalize presentations or training workshops to help meet your needs. The following is a list of topics that family caregivers often request.

Live Stream

Class Descriptions

A two-hour workshop that provides caregivers with simple tips to reduce stress during the holidays or while celebrating special occasions. Caregivers will learn how to overcome the “holiday blues” with support, joy, and care.

A two-hour workshop that helps caregivers manage the difficult and stressful aspects of caregiving through effective coping mechanisms such as cognitive behavioral therapy and constructive habit formation. Caregivers will learn to identify the key triggers that are likely to lead to anger and frustration. Recognizing the danger signals will help the caregiver cope and take control of their situation.

A two-hour workshop designed to help caregivers understand: the basic symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease, how to talk to a primary care physician about changes in cognition, communication strategies as the disease progresses, and helpful ways to respond to common dementia-related behaviors.

A two-hour seminar conducted by an Attorney at Law that reviews issues relevant to family caregiving situations such the Durable Power of Attorney for health care and finances, trusts, conservatorships, Medi-Cal planning for long-term care and other legal matters.

A two-hour workshop that reviews the basics of daily care for a loved one with dementia and other chronic conditions. Topics include: differences between home health and home/companion care; home care topics (body mechanics, hand washing, bathing/bed baths, oral hygiene/ dentures, hair care); home health topics (medication, proper transferring, in-home safety evaluation, prevention/treatment of pressure sores) and tips to avoid caregiver burnout.

A two-day workshop to help optimize the caregivers’ health by building a workout routine that includes breathing exercises to reduce stress for caregivers. Caregivers also learn tips for eating healthy on a budget. The key to caregiving is self-care.

A two-hour workshop designed to assist caregivers with the decision-making process related to care needs that arise for a loved one with a chronic condition or dementia-related disease. A review of long-term care options and services will help caregivers plan for both in-home care and out-of-home care needs.

A two-hour workshop focusing on tools that will help caregivers manage the daily stresses and challenges of caregiving. This workshop is based upon the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program, a self-care education program for family caregivers that is utilized in 41 states across the United States.

Family caregivers are able to review the Advance Health Care Directives and the Five Wishes document that can be used to express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and are unable to speak for yourself.

A six-week series designed for caregivers to learn clear and effective tools to prevent caregiver burnout. This class teaches self-care skills, enabling caregivers to reduce personal stress, change negative thinking, improve communication with health care providers, and thoughtfully make difficult caregiving decisions.

Family caregivers will learn tools that can reduce the stress of caregiving. These tools will enable the caregiver to adjust to changes in family roles and expectations, plan a family meeting, and improve overall communication with family members.

A two-hour workshop to help caregivers understand common dementia-related behaviors, learn effective communication strategies, positive ways to respond to troubling dementia-related behaviors, maintain a positive attitude and offer and receive support from others.
